Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, also known as FDLTCC, is a community college located in the city of Cloquet, found in the state of Minnesota. The school’s main campus is located on 38 acres of wooded area. The school also has a satellite campus found in Red Lake. The school is the only tribal college that is a member of the State Colleges and Universities System of Minnesota. The school campus is also considered to be a rural reserve and a haven for tribal members.
The school was build in 1979, when the Fond Du Lac Reservation Business Committee hard agreed that the community needed a higher learning institution as part of their comprehensive educational plan. The Minnesota Legislature then created the school in 1987, and the Fond du Lac Reservation chartered the school in the same year. FDLTCC offers its students 15 Associate degrees 129 certificates in the following courses; clean energy technology, business and human services, geospatial technology, liberal arts and sciences, law enforcement, and nursing.
The school’s mission is to meet the educational needs of the diverse population in their district. Their goal is also to offer education at the associate level and to provide certificates of training. The school was also build in response to the higher education needs of American Indians. This will allow their students to continue on to 4-year colleges, or join the workforce directly. Fond Du Lac Tribal Community College is a also a member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. The consortium is a tribal and federally-chartered institution that works to strengthen tribal nations and make a difference in the lives of American and Alaskan Indians and Natives.
